If you had high blood pressure, you wouldn’t think twice about seeing your doctor and following their advice about medication. So why is taking care of your mental health any different?
I’m Lexi O’Malley, and I became a psychiatric nurse practitioner because I watched someone I love struggle with addiction and saw firsthand how much difference the right support can make. That experience taught me early that mental health treatment isn’t a luxury or a sign of weakness – it’s healthcare, plain and simple.
My path started at Fairfield University where I got my bachelor’s in nursing in 2015, but everything clicked into place when I started working in the emergency department at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. The psych population quickly became my favorite people to work with. There was something about meeting people in crisis, helping them stabilize and watching them begin to find their way forward that made me realize this was exactly where I belonged. So I went back to school, completed my master’s in psychiatric nursing at Regis College in 2021, and haven’t looked back since.
I’ve spent the last few years at a busy community mental health center in the Boston area treating everything from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder to anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and substance misuse. Now I work with adolescents and adults, and I focus on medication management with a collaborative care approach.
Here’s what you should know about working with me: I’m direct, straightforward, and honest.
I don’t sugarcoat things but my patients tell me they appreciate knowing exactly where they stand with me. I’m open with you and I expect that in return. If something isn’t working, we talk about it and we adjust where it’s necessary. Simple as that. I can only really help you, when you’re honest with me. I’m here to guide you and offer my clinical expertise but ultimately you make the choices and decisions about your treatment. You know yourself better than anyone else and my job is to help you find the treatment that works for your life.
When I’m not working, I’m usually out at parks or libraries with my family or eating peanut M&M’s. My life motto is simple: what’s meant to be will be. I believe in showing up, doing the work and trusting the process, both in my own life and in the work I do with patients.
If you’re looking for someone who will be honest, direct, and genuinely invested in helping you feel better, let’s talk. Mental health treatment should be as straightforward as treating any other health condition, and I’m here to help you get the care you deserve.
